Our guest this week is Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, a local veterinarian who specializes in cats. Dr. Shaw sits down with Amy and Dr. B to discuss feline enrichment, which is finding ways to provide cats with a sense of engagement, decrease boredom, and keep them mentally stimulated. Dr. Shaw covers a wide range of topics, such as importance of moisture rich diets, putting distance between food bowls and water bowls, walking cats with harnesses, fresh sunshine, cat cafes, cat tunnels and free floating shelves, laser pointers, music, declawing vs. trimming, cardboard boxes, scratching pads, plants for olfactory enrichment, and how micro-chipping can keep your cat safe and healthier. To learn more about feline enrichment, Dr. Shaw suggests consulting the Winn Feline Foundation. She also recommends checking out the Ohio State University indoor pet campaign at indoorpet.osu.edu/cats.
